An 11 mile walk through the High Weald in East Sussex, visiting Winnie the Pooh country and pretty woodland areas, with a pub lunch at the Anchor Inn in Hartfield. From Ashurst Station we will head along the Wealdway to start with, which skirts the River Medway for a while. We will then branch off southwards into the village of Hartfield where we enter Winnie-the-Pooh territory. There is a shop called Pooh Corner, which sells souvenirs and memorabilia mostly very Disneyfied stuff. This is also where we will have lunch, at the Anchor Inn. There is also a good range of real ales on tap here. Menu at http://www.anchorinnhartfield.co.uk/menu.htm

After lunch we head into Ashdown Forest, and walk across the bridge where Winnie the Pooh invented and played Pooh Sticks. If you want to play, you may have to bring your own twig, since nearby trees and bushes have been stripped denuded by previous visitors. It's a rather disappointing experience, since the bridge is new and the river is a sluggish ditch, but hey!

From here on we are mainly in woodland for the afternoon, with occasional open vistas increasing towards the end of the walk. We head eastwards through Posingford Wood, and on into Five Hundred Acre Wood for some time. At the edge of the woods we come to Friars Gate, to be welcomed by the Half Moon pub which is open all afternoon and can serve hot drinks as well as the usual refreshments.
There is another 3 miles through woods and farmland before we end up at Eridge Station for the journey back to London. Right by the station is The Huntsman pub, if we have to wait for a train. We can expect to back at London Bridge station at 6.50 or 7.50pm.

Please confirm your attendance by midnight on Thursday 11th October, so I have an idea of numbers for the pub lunch.
These walks on Saturdays have proved very popular. On our last walk, on 22nd September, there were 45 of us. Feel free to invite yourself, and come and join us!
