Community based group working with local Police and other organisations to help the LGBT community in Tower Hamlets to improve reporting of Hate crime and reporting of LGBT issues

Positive East in partnership with Tower Hamlets Police, the London borough of Tower Hamlets , Galop and Victim Support have launched the Tower Hamlets LGBT forum.
Tower Hamlets LGBT Forum
Aim of the Group.
The aims are to:
Invite the LGBT communities and service providers to meet and spend an afternoon considering LGBT issues
Discern from LGBT people who live, work, socialise or learn locally what life is like for them in Redbridge
Get the LGBT community members and the service providers working together to discuss how the network will work practically towards improving the lives of LGBT people in the borough
Offer LGBT community members a chance to meet local, Pan London and national service providers and talk to them about what facilities they provide
Offer LGBT community members a chance to publicly question representatives from local service providers about their commitment to local LGBT communities
This event and the issues raised within it have given the LGBT Forum a real mandate to base its work upon. The attendance of high ranking members of the police, Primary Care Trust, and Tower Hamlets council shows that interest in this forum is there from the highest levels of local agencies.
The questions raised at the Meeting reflect a need to improve access to information and knowledge about existing services, as well as involving the local LGBT populations in further service planning and development in the future. This will ensure services provided are relevant to the communities and meet their needs.
The main issues raised in the group discussions will be used as the starting point for an Action Plan which the Forum will produce and use to achieve the objectives as discussed by the LGBT communities during the following months meetings.
