'The Vinyl Closet' is a an evening of music and chat with Ted Brown and Brett Lock. The duo return to Conway Hall for another performance of their well-received show.

In the first half Ted and Brett will shine a light into the musical closet of the pre-gay liberation era, investigating how queer gender and sexuality was represented on records. From the clubs of Harlem to the end of the Yellow Brick Road, taking in musicals, the blues and early rock 'n' roll. Ted Brown will sing - backed by his musical collaborator Brett Lock - a selection of songs while the pair open up the discussion of this fascinating period in LGBT history.

In the second part, they dip into the deep vinyl closet once again and look at the post-Stonewall era.

The 1969 Stonewall riots were a watershed in LGBT liberation and a convenient chapter marking for the project. 'The Vinyl Closet' sifts through the sounds of the 70s and 80s to uncover portrayals of LGBT lives in popular music. This period lies between the awakening of the gay movement following Stonewall and the start of modern radical activism at the beginning of the 1990s. The period includes the colourful gender 'transgression' of the glam rock era and the changing perspectives on sexuality, and a more political thrust, which is also represented in the music.

The evening will be hosted by the Gay & Lesbian Humanist Association. (www.galha.org)

'There is a treasure trove of material to sing and talk about and look forward to sharing an entertaining and thought-provoking evening with GALHA and friends this February for LGBT History Month! Songs chronicling our lives were sometimes touching and poignant, but more often witty and light-hearted, and a joy to sing,' said Ted Brown.
