the friday ceilidh, Glasgow
1 July 2011: the friday ceilidh
If you fancy something a little bit different then head to the Sloans Grand Ballroom for the famous Friday Ceilidh from 8.30pm. Tickets £8/5 Buy Tickets Now or call 0141 221 8886. For more information on ceilidh band visit www.chitterybite.com
While a band is playing live celidh music, ~100 people dance in the hall. People dance in pair - a male and a female; OR in group - 2 males & 2 females; OR in bigger group - 5 to 50 people in a circle or line. The dance combinations are quite physical and in increasing challenging, a lot of turning, running, jumping, carrying females up and down etc. It is not specifically gay-orientated event however it is great fun to meet people, to have a drink, to have some physical exercise and to enjoy a cultural Scottish day !
My experience was that, everyone smiles and sometimes laughs when people make silly mistakes on just trying to follow the instructors. So definitely good fun and silly evening. It is very international too.
