Singing the World, Bridport, Dorset
7 October 2011: Singing the World
Singing Weekend 7-9 Oct 2011 in wonderful setting on the Jurassic coast. Two experienced UK voice teachers. No need to read music. Walks to beach. Candlelit singing Saturday evening. Great atmosphere. Friendly community spirit.
**Update July: EVENT IS NOW FULLY BOOKED RESIDENTIALLY. ONLY SATURDAY DAY SPACES AVAILABLE**
Come and sing with two popular and inspirational Natural Voice teachers who lead workshops around the UK. A weekend of vibrant song and harmonies. We'll be teaching songs from here, there and everywhere, with styles ranging from funky jazz to rainforest chant and beyond. The focus will be on 'upbeat' and 'uplifting' songs - so expect plenty of scrunchy chords and fun rhythms! The weekend is open to everyone regardless of ability and experience; you don't need to read music. Just bring your voices. We bring the va-va-voom to meld everyone into a harmonic group for the weekend. It's not exclusively an LGBT event -- there'll be straight singers there too. But Othona is a gay friendly space, and we are both gay.
Here's the event listed on the Othona website:
http://www.othona-bb.org.uk/event147_oct7_9.html
Cost
£97 plus £30 course fee
£74 plus £30 course fee (concessionary rate)
Both those prices include all meals and accommodation in shared rooms. There are only 3 single rooms and they are now already booked. There are about 30 people already booked for the weekend - so spaces are running out fast.
The setting is lovely - above the Jurassic coastline with a short walk down to the beach. We'll be singing in the bright acoustic of Othona's chapel, an ecumenical place of retreat and recreation. We'll share in washing up and laying tables etc -- but these community chores take less than half an hour a day. The focus will be on great songs, wonderful harmonies, and a real sense of connection through sound. Songs might be African, Maori, Croatian, Georgian, Contemporary Folk, Jazz, etc -- all in four part harmonies.
If you'd like to come along -- please book direct through our hosts on: [number available to members only] 30 or email: [email address available to members only]
Any questions about the accommodation -- it's best to contact our hosts direct. But hopefully you'll find most questions answered on their website:

Please also mark yourself as 'probable' or 'definite' on here - so others can see who might be coming along from OUT.

Gilo & Sarah
What OUTers have said from previous workshops...
It was great to see how you both create an atmosphere of trust that empowers people to sing. It's clear that you both enjoy working together.
Sarah & yourself were great fun & made things appear so easy! The songs were great & although I have sung for many years, this was a new experience for me & thoroughly enjoyable.
I didn't know singing could be this much fun. How did you get us to do such amazing songs? You and Sarah are seriously good at what you do.
