Shoreham Pub Crawl in West Sussex, Shoreham-by-Sea, East Sussex
22 May 2010: Shoreham Pub Crawl in West Sussex
We are Lesbian and Gay Real Ale Drinkers (LAGRAD), part of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) and we're pub crawling in Shoreham, West Sussex. Meet at the Buckingham Arms by the station, then to the Duke of Wellington, then back to the Buckingham.
This is a great crawl for ale aficionados with a great choice of beers (the pubs are in the Good Beer Guide).
We'll start at 8pm at the Buckingham Arms (35 Brunswick Rd, Shoreham-by-Sea, Sussex BN43 5WA), a large traditional pub, which usually has around a dozen ales on tap, and is just over the road from Shoreham station.
We'll move on around 9pm to the Duke of Wellington (368 Brighton Road, Shoreham BN43 6RE), which is owned by the Dark Star brewery (who also own the Evening Star in Brighton). Originally built in the 1920s, it has a huge Wellington boot hanging outside the brick Tudorbethan' exterior. It usually has at least three different ales on, including some of Dark Star's own. If you want to whet your appetite, there's a listing at: http://www.eveningstarbrighton.co.uk/images/Tasting_Notes2010.pdf
At 10pm we'll wander back to the Buckingham, as it's close to the station: depending on demand, we may catch the train back to Brighton for last orders in the Evening Star, the original pub of the Dark Star brewery (55-56 Surrey St, Brighton BN1 3PB). Regularly featuring among the local CAMRA branch's Pub of the Year' finalists, it boasts 10 hand pumps - serving 7 real ales - along with a huge selection of bottled conditioned ales and imported beers.
OUTeverywhere member organiser
This event has been added to the OUTeverywhere calendar by Billy Tipps from Brighton in the East Sussex area.
I'm a gregarious, socialble character, who likes going out and being in a group (two's a group though, if it's the right person). I'm rather partial to good real ales, of which there are many. I'm involved with Lesbian and Gay Real Ale Drinkers, part of the Campaign for Real Ale and I joined OUTeverywhere initially to organise real ale social events in London and the Brighton area
