19 July 2008: Ride the R A T
The Mid Hants Railway - Watercress Line - Real Ale Train. Continuing its tradition of serving ales from Hampshire and surrounding counties. The train is effectively a ‘long bar' steaming through East Hampshire.
The Real Ale Train continues its tradition of serving real ales from Hampshire and surrounding counties from a restored Real Ale Bar carriage.
They select at least one local brewery to guest for each train so each time you come, there are different ales to try! Ales priced at £2.00 per pint. Other alcoholic and soft drinks as well as snacks are on sale at the on-board buffet. Hot food can be purchased on board the train with vegetarian alternatives available.
RAT trains depart at 7:20pm from Alton station and return at 10.34 pm after 2 round trips through the Hampshire countryside. Connects with the 10.44 pm South West Trains departure from Alton.

Due to its popularity the trains quickly become booked in advance during 2006, and this continued, despite the trains running fortnightly, during 2007.
You are recomended to purchase your ticket at least one month in advance. However, I am considering purchasing a few extra tickets to cater for thise who leave it too late to book online.
The R.A.T. attracts a mixed crowd from 20 something up to 60+'s and is great night out for everyone not just Railways or Beer types, though it helps if you like beer!
