28 July 2007: Real ale pub crawl - Brighton
A crawl of several real ale pubs in Brighton.
Following our recent popular Events in London, we thought an away-day to Brighton might be fun. OUT has teamed up with LAGRAD (Lesbian and Gay Real Ale Drinkers, a CAMRA-affiliated group) to organise a day's crawl in Brighton, to coincide with the start of Brighton Pride week. Crawlers are free to join and leave the crawl at any stage. The below running order, and a route map, can be downloaded from the following two links:

1. Meet at the EVENING STAR, 55-56 Surrey Street (perpendicular to Brighton Station, on the right pub is two minutes from the station), at 1.00 p.m. Brighton's premier real ale venue and home to the Dark Star Brewery + guest ales + draught cider.
2. Ten minutes walk to the SHAKESPEARE, 1 Chatham Place for about 2.30 p.m. Hall & Woodhouse pub (Badger Beers) - Tanglefoot, Best Bitter + seasonal and a sausage dinner (£7) - menu, etc. at http://www.lovethesausage.com/ (plenty of vegetarian options available)
3. Five minutes walk to PRESTONVILLE, 64 Hamilton Road at about 4.00 p.m. Gale's pub full range of Gale's ales (about 4+), now brewed in Chiswick. Also London Pride.
4. Fifteen minutes to the PV (formerly the Princess Victoria), 22 Upper North Street for about 5.00 p.m. Harvey's Best Bitter + two guests (and a menu if you didn't fancy a bit of sausage in the Shakespeare!).
5. Five minutes to the QUADRANT, 12-13 North Street Quadrant (but facing Queens Road) at about 6.00 p.m. Four guest ales + cider on handpump. Historic preserved pub in otherwise redeveloped block.
6. Ten minutes walk (past the EVENING STAR, above, and under the Station) to the LORD NELSON, 36 Trafalgar Street at about 7.00 p.m. Harvey's pub range of Harvey's ales (as the Royal Oak in the Borough).
Also shown on crawl map - Dr. Brighton's (gay with three ales) for anyone who wants to see the sea, and re-join us later...
After the crawl, some of us may go for dinner to Buffet Island, a Chinese restaurant close to our final pub and the station, with an "eat all you can" buffet. Anyone is welcome to join in, or not as you prefer. http://www.buffet-island.co.uk/ for further details.

Mature student living in Belsize Park, NW London. I enjoy good food and wine (both in & out), classical/jazz music, theatre and arts generally, and a good night out down the pub. I'm mainly on here for the Forums, and the odd Event. Oh, and I'm single... :-)
