6 November 2009: Reading Gay Christian Forum Meeting
Reading Gay Christian Forum is a group for gay men and lesbians from a wide range of denominations and backgrounds, including Quakers, C of E, etc who live in the Berkshire area. Members include those active in their church to non-church attendees.
The group has developed into a bible study and support group. The 'sessions' normally include a bible study between 30 minutes to an hour depending on the subject matter. So far this year we have looked at 'Wealth', 'Science', 'Isaiah 55', 'Hannah', 'Role of Men & Women in the Bible' and 'Tongues'. Each study is coordinated by different members and can be as detailed or as light as they require. Often these discussions lead into other spiritually led conversations. As the members come from a vast range of denominations there is no set style to the studies.
The proposed subject for the 6th Nov is 'Prayer'.
There is a time for prayer, discussion (general chatting and gossiping). People share about experiences within their lives as either a gay man/woman or being a person of faith. They can gain support with dealing with issues within their spiritual, church or work life.
They are a caring and supportive bunch of people who happen to be gay and christian, and want to meet every 5 or 6 weeks with like minded people. The group includes people who grew up in the church to those recently returning to their faith. Some very knowledgeable members to newbies. There is a vast range of ages and experiences.
Bible Studies are often conducted with a bible in one hand and a glass of wine in the other. Despite some great indepth discussions at times, the general mood is really light hearted and supportive. You get the chance to hear about other denominations and views on certain matters.

People don't believe me that I am shy face-2-face, despite being a right cheeky monkey on some Forums. Orginally from the West Country, but transplanted to Reading in early 90s. Joined OUT for both Gay Male & Female friends, to break the feelings of isolation after the breakup of a long term relationship.
