Rainbow Warriors - An invitation to journey...., North East London, London
12 October 2007: Rainbow Warriors - An invitation to journey....
.....to form a group of 12 gay men who through experiential activities will explore different ways of relating to self, others and nature/universe to transform unhelpful ways of being and nurture self love in a safe and supportive environment.
'When we as gay people learn to accept ourselves and share who we are without fear, we have the potential to transform society. Quite often we see things differently from the mainstream.
The way of loving that comes naturally to us is a powerful alternative to the aggressive competitive maleness our culture seems to worship. As a group, we share a quality of consciousness that makes us creators, explorers and innovators.
Because we tend to bridge the seeming polarities of masculine/feminine, spirit/flesh, vision/reality, we are in a position to offer deeply needed perspectives in a society plagued by imbalance.
It is no accident we fill professions related to the arts, caregiving, spiritual ministry and teaching. When we value ourselves enough to live openly and fully the entire world is enriched.
Many cultures have recognised these unique talents and honoured our special place within their communities. It is said that were even Greek armies who would only admit men who loved men to their ranks.
Unfortunately, our own homophobic social traditions have caused our gifts to go unrecognised and, in the process, have inflicted great pain and wounding. As a result Gay and Bisexual men can carry fears, hurts, judgements and misconceptions about themselves and their bodies. Most of us learned to distrust our natural desires for touch, sharing, and pleasure. We learned to shut off any parts of ourselves that didn't fit the overwhelmingly heterosexual expectations we saw around us. We came to deny anything inside us that seemed 'different' or too close to our core. So doing we often renounced our most valuable and glorious gifts. Even men who have lived out, open, and healthy Gay lives for many years can still be haunted by old, nagging doubts and fears'.- John Stowe
'How does the group operate?'
