This is the second of two evenings centred around the themes of Community and Connection - using movement, meditation, dance, sharing in heart circle, sound and silence - for group members to connect at a deeper level, both within and with others.
Richard Nickols and Nigel Lees will facilitate two evenings centred around the themes of Community and Connection. We will use movement, meditation, dance, sharing in heart circle, sound and silence. This is an evening for group members to connect at a deeper level both within and with others, by creating sacred intimate space.
Richard writes:
Having come to the group a few times, I've been struck by the apparent richness and wisdom of members, and wanted to hear more about their individual spiritual journeys and paths. Rather than us as "speakers" talking about a subject with Q and A after tea, we aim to set up a space which will encourage community, through shared experience (dance, making sound etc), and hopefully encourage people to speak about things personal and spiritual, and have the experience of being listened to. Gay men have a special resonance, and in our society this needs to be heard.
This is a chance to take a risk maybe, to come together to open, soften, deepen and to connect to the Source of All, however we individually define that expression.
Both Richard and Nigel are ordained Interfaith Ministers, having trained at the Interfaith Seminary in London. Richard is a Psychosynthesis counsellor, and Nigel is a facilitator in training for the Dances of Universal Peace. They have attended numerous gay men's weeks at Lauriston Hall with the Edward Carpenter Community.

The Out Spirituality Group is a friendly meeting of like-minded gay people who have an interest in spirituality. We look at a variety of topics and issues, with the aim of enabling people to broaden their knowledge and experience of spiritual matters (whatever that means for each of us).
There are opportunities to discuss our journey thus far, where we are at, and where our journey may be taking us.
Come along and be refreshed, invigorated and maybe discover different ways of thinking about things. The venue has an ambience of prayer and spirituality – on this site people have sought for centuries to encounter a power greater than themselves. There is something unquantifiably special about the complex of buildings that is St James's: it is a safe place for all who do not fit the usual stereotypes; here there is no pressure to conform. Hence we can soak up some of the accumulated spiritual energy of the years and possibly add in some small way to the spirituality that is here.
Whilst the prime focus is on spirituality, by participating in the evening we have an opportunity to build friendships and to network – and to form connections that will have a positive effect on our lives and potentially in ways that we cannot yet envisage. It is more than meetings!!

After the meeting we go to a local gay pub, where space is reserved for us. This is a further chance to continue discussion and to get to know people. Food is available at a modest cost.
