1 April 2008: OUT Spirituality Group - Faerie Spirituality
http://www.gayspiritualityonline.org
The radical faeries have a history stretching back 3 decades: Harry Hay called the first spiritual conference for gay men in the desert near Tuscon, Arizona, in 1979, with the aim of exploring gay visions and breakthroughs in gay consciousness.
Since then faerie sanctuaries have developed in the USA, in Australia, and since 3 years now in France. These are environments where queer beings are exploring many sides of life in contexts entirely of our own making - where the conformities and expectations of mainstream society are entirely absent - this is where we can develop our own style of community, relationship and ritual.
Faerie events are particularly known for powerful heart circles, creative ritual, breaking down gender conformities, connection to nature, healing and growth in soul and spirit. People from all spiritual backgrounds and none come together to explore, play and celebrate. The common denominator is love.
During this evening we will look at phenomena that have become particularly associated with the faeries: subject-subject consciousness, ecstatic ritual, communing with nature, cross-dressing shamanism and puppy piles! In heart circles let's share our tales of how love has transformed our lives, created community for us and brought healing. And let's sit together in the power of love connecting us and all things, all with the intention to bring more love and healing light into our lives and to the world.
Marco Lovestar, our speaker, says:
"Life as a gay man in London in the 1980s and my experience with HIV opened me up to a spiritual view of life. At eurofaerie gatherings I found a love-filled environment where gay men are free to explore their relationships with each other, with the planet, with Spirit, in the ways they choose. In this atmosphere of respect for all spiritual paths I felt right at home, and have become a steward of Folleterre, the first eurofaerie sanctuary, situated in the mountains of eastern France. Totally convinced of the value and potential of gay men as a force for tolerance, peace, compassion in the world I also do what I am able to help along an awakening of spirit amongst us in this wild and sometimes glorious city."

The Out Spirituality Group is a friendly meeting of like-minded gay people who have an interest in spirituality. We look at a variety of topics and issues, with the aim of enabling people to broaden their knowledge and experience of spiritual matters (whatever that means for each of us).
There are opportunities to discuss our journey thus far, where we are at, and where our journey may be taking us.
Whilst the prime focus is on spirituality, by participating in the evening we have an opportunity to build friendships and to network and to form connections that will have a positive effect on our lives and potentially in ways that we cannot yet envisage. It is more than meetings!!
We have a pseudo-event dedicated to the friendship and networking side of things - see quickfind:318866
After the meeting we go to a local gay pub, where space is reserved for us. This is a further chance to continue discussion and to get to know people. Food is available at a modest cost.
Our fortnightly meetings on Tuesday evenings are advertised on the Events' section of OUT, and also on our website: http://www.gayspiritualityonline.org
Nothing is ever set in stone, so please do let us know your views on the group in general, meetings that you have attended, and the sort of topics that you would like us to cover. The best way of doing that is to complete the feedback form on our website. Or send a message via OUT to the event organiser.
