Yoga - just exercise, or a form of spirituality...or both? Come along and find out for yourself!
The workshop will be led by Andrew Kean-Hammerson. It will include some physical practice (breathing and basic yoga postures [asana] and relaxation) as well as meditative time and a group discussion as an introduction to the world of yoga.
The yoga itself will not be rigorous and will be suitable for beginners and advanced. You will not be pushed or overly challenged but be in a sympathetic and nurturing environment. Andrew is very able to work with people who feel that being physical is something that is challenging so if you would like to come but are unsure, this is something which will be welcomed and fully taken into account.
Loose cotton clothing is ideal to wear. If you have or can borrow a yoga mat, then do bring it; if not a blanket will do. We will work in bear feet. If the evening or the hall is cool, it might be a good idea to bring a jumper so you remain warm.
Andrew has been doing body work for over 20 years. He trained in performance dance and theatre as a professional performer and teacher, then trained as a yoga teacher in 2000 with The British Wheel of Yoga. He describes his work as being influenced not only by his yoga training and regards his style as quite eclectic and not falling under the umbrella of cliche yoga practice. He says that his work definitely has an emphasis on the sensuous and asks those he works with to be sensitive to the body and its functioning.

The Out Spirituality Group is a friendly meeting of lesbians and gay men who have an interest in spirituality and self-development. It is an opportunity to discuss, with respect for others in the group, what our journey means for each of us. Each meeting we look at different subjects and issues about spirituality and growth. It is also a great way to meet other like-minded people and have fun. At the end of each meeting we retire to a local pub to take the opportunity to get to know each other better.
We meet fortnightly on Tuesday evenings - each event will be advertised separately.
