1 January 2011: OUT BIG SING --- an event idea
**OUT BIG SING** in London. Sing for a day. Build community through harmonies. Sing for charity. Event in *planning stage* at present. Hope to create a mega big day in London with 100plus singers. All proceeds to LGBT charity. IGNORE DATE!!
THIS IS NOT AN EVENT *YET* -- IT'S THE *IDEA* OF ONE
IGNORE THE DATE -- it's not a real date
I'm sending this to gauge interest level to see if the idea is viable......given the amazing response it's received so far, it's more than viable Please read the outline below and ... ***REMEMBER TO SIGN UP IF INTERESTED***
Either Definite or Probable - doesn't matter at this stage. It doesn't commit you, but it guarantees you'll be posted with further info.
Here's the bobby...
My singing partner and I plan to create a charity 'Big Sing' in London for sometime in 2009. We are well established Natural Voice teachers and lead acapella harmony workshops with groups of varying sizes.
BIG SING
We'd lead a day of song workshops and include a variety of song styles. Perhaps some Gospel, Maori, African, Croatian, Hawaiian, etc. All in four or more parts. We'd aim to teach things that aren't necessarily familiar to many choral or choir groups.
WHO IS IT FOR?
It's for everyone who wants to come along and take part.
YOU DON'T NEED TO READ MUSIC OR EVEN THINK OF YOURSELF AS A 'SINGER'. All would be welcome regardless of singing ability. So it's *NOT* about being a polished professional singer. Give us your voice for a day and we'll bring the va-va-voom to build a community choir in a day! We'll aim to raise the rafters and have alot of fun making some spectacular harmony. And if you've never sung in a large group before - it's an amazing experience.
FINANCES
Participants would pay for the day
Perhaps a variable charge, eg..
£20 Skint but Willing
£25 Pillar of the Community
£30 Generous Benefactor
These ammounts are guidelines - and the actual cost might be different when we see what sort of numbers we have.
Sarah and I would take no fee. Just the cost of our train fare.
Our time & energy & skill would be our donation.
After cost of hall hire, and any other expenses
all proceeds would go to a LGBT charity.
VENUE
We are currectly exploring various venue possibilites in London, and have the help of several OUTers plus the help of our linked charity.
VIABILITY
We reckon the day needs about 100 people to make it viable. But we could account for some of that number through our own networks. So we're probably looking for about 60 to 80 OUTers to make this happen. If there are more than that - that's no problem. We've taught 300plus at festivals. We'd just need to make sure the venue was large enough.
ADVERTISING
We'll promote it on here of course. But we'd welcome anyone with press experience getting involved in helping us to promote this in the gay press. This would need to be via press release, as we have no funds for advertising.
LGBT CHARITY
We've decided we'd like to support *The Albert Kennedy Trust* which works with young LGBTers - to provide housing, fostercare, and many other services. It doesn't get as much funding as better known gay charities. http://www.akt.org.uk

......................................................................................
So as you can see, we need *your* help to make this happen. Initially we need an idea of numbers. Do you like the idea of getting together for a big old day of harmony and song?
If you'd like to be involved - PLEASE TICK THE MAGIC BOX *DEFINITE* or *PROBABLE* so we've got you on the guest list for the future.
And if we get at least 80 people then we know we're close to a viable event. Any feedback or further suggestions please go to quickfind:362696
Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Are you interested.... ?
Thanks for any responses
