OUTBACK TO BASICS CAMPING IN CORNWALL
=====================
This will be the 11th OUTback camping weekend over the August Bank Holiday. It is held on a gay-only site prepared for just the one weekend each year. It has always been a very friendly and welcoming event and if you haven't been to OUTback before you'll find that everyone will make you feel at home, especially after a couple of cans of lager!
A few quickfire FAQs:
Who is coming and has paid so far? People never keep this guest list up to date so instead, see Quickfind:431569
Are camper vans and caravans welcome? Yes, but ask about electrics
Do I need a tent? Yes!
Are dogs welcome? Yes.
How far is civilisation? Pubs and shops 5 minutes away, Truro city centre 3 miles by bus.
Anybody from OUT is welcome. Here is the ongoing discussion thread: Quickfind:428715

Tickets for the camping weekend from midday Friday to 6pm Monday are £30 per person for the whole 3-day event. Extra nights bookending this period are £5 per head per night. Message me for ways of buying a ticket which may be by Paypal, bank transfer, cheque or postal order.
The event is non-profit; in practice it makes a loss due to the one-off nature of OUTback and the costs of turning an ordinary field into a reasonably civilised camp site for one weekend a year. In the past my party themes and marquee have added to the costs and subsequent losses, so this year, for the eleventh anniversary we are going Back to Basics. That means a quiet, peaceful weekend for all except for the late-night chatting around the camp fire!
You are welcome to arrive as early as Wednesday and leave later than Monday, as some do every year.
OUTback has been more back-to-basics in recent years, so in 2011 we won't be having the the marquee, party, fancy dress and free food night etc. seen in the photos of OUTbacks prior to 2009.
But there will be a barbecue facility, purpose built toilet and shower block,
camp fire and bendy lighting. There will also be a large tent to act as a meeting place (the ex "OUTback Odeon"cinema tent). In 2010 and 2009 we had great fun enjoying the the more laid back purely camping event.
Most OUTbackers go off during the day singly or in groups and do their own thing. There are lots of things to do in Cornwall during the day, as anybody who has been here on holiday will know. Saturday is Cornwall Gay Pride day in Truro, see http://www.cornwallpride.com/index.php/entertainment/evening-entertainment
Visit the famous Eden Project, Lost Gardens of Heligan, St Michael's Mount, Land's End, the historic tin mining area of St Just and Cape Cornwall, the creeks and inlets of the Helford River, or the beach party and surfing atmosphere of Newquay. Or how about a day trip by helicopter to the magical Isles of Scilly?

Also - Wildlife Boat Trip! Join us on the sailing catamaran for a trip around the southern coast of West Penwith looking for basking sharks, whales, sunfish, dolphins and seals. If you are interested in this sub-event see Quickfind:414767 to reserve your place and http://www.marinediscovery.co.uk/
The campsite is in central Cornwall and easy to get to. From London or the North it is all motorway and dual carriageway. A new 10 mile section of dual carriageway has eliminated the tedious bank holiday jams at the old roundabout at Bodmin and the slow trek across Goss Moor. You can be at OUTback in 2 hours 45 minutes from Bristol Gordano services. This is the route once you turn off the A30 at Chiverton roundabout:
Once at the camp site, Truro town centre is just three miles away, while within a 5-minute walk are local shops and two pubs. You can arrive by train or coach, as Truro station is just 2 miles away).
OUTback is the highlight of the year for me and I look forward to welcoming campers old and new. Come along and you'll have a great time in the friendly and welcoming atmosphere, set amongst an idyllic field where we can enjoy ourselves in a relaxed all-gay environment. Do jo
