There will be a marquee, barbecue facilities, purpose built toilet and shower block, camp fire and a fancy dress party on the Sunday evening with free food. We'll also have the OUTBACK ODEON tent again, which will show DVDs of classic comedy programmes to get you in the mood for the Sunday night fancy dress party; the theme is Comedy Classics!
There will be an OUTback Hotel tent with three separate and distinct double bedrooms for those who want to come but who don't have a tent. Berths will be available to rent.
Most OUTbackers go off during the day and do their own thing. There are lots of things to do in Cornwall during the day, as anybody who has been here on holiday will know. Visit the famous Eden Project, Lost Gardens of Heligan, St Michael's Mount, Land's End, the historic tin mining area of St Just and Cape Cornwall, the creeks and inlets of the Helford River, or the beach party and surfing atmosphere of Newquay.
The campsite is in central Cornwall and easy to get to. From London or the North it is all motorway and dual carriageway. A new 10 mile section of dual carriageway has eliminated the tedious bank holiday jams at the old roundabout at Bodmin and the slow trek across Goss Moor. You can be at OUTback in 2 hours 45 minutes from Bristol Gordano services.
Once at the camp site, Truro town centre is just three miles away, while within a 5-minute walk are local shops and two pubs.
This year the Sunday fancy dress party theme will be Comedy Classics with a Mad Hatters' Tea Party and barbecue. Cakes and cucumber sandwiches galore. Barbecued dormouse?
Dress as well-known comedy characters and act the part! You could be anyone from Blackadder to Edina from Ab Fab!
Make an OUTrageous Mad Hatter's Hat -just 7/6d! Just go on Youtube to get ideas. It's a brilliant opportunity to re-use and adapt your old OUTback fancy dress gear, and so easy. Anything goes as long as it raises a laugh. That's what OUTback 9 will be all about -laughter!
The marquee will be the same one as in 2008, 20 ft x 30 ft. There will be a small stage where I am hoping some of us will tell jokes or do a comedy turn on the Sunday night There may be some low-key background party music for a few hours each evening depending on whether everyone is in a party mood or prefers peace & quiet. During the day I will devote my energies to helping guests enjoy their daytime pursuits such as visiting tourist attractions and Cornwall's wonderful beaches. You can arrive by train or coach, as Truro station is just 2 miles away). Or even fly to Newquay, where we will pick you up. Sadly the blue minibus we've had in the past will not be available this year, the owners sold it as it failed the MOT.
For those who'd like me to take them somewhere in my car(s), I haven't decided yet what sub-event to offer. It might be the Secret Beach, the Secret Lake/Chysauster, a marine wildlife expedition, an exploration and guided tour of old mine workings... maybe a visit to Lanhydrock House, the Eden Project or Heligan.
OUTback is the highlight of the year for me and I look forward to welcoming campers old and new. Come along and you'll have a great time in the friendly and welcoming atmosphere, set amongst an idyllic field where we can enjoy ourselves in a relaxed all-gay environment. Do join us!
