This all-weekend event lasts from midday Friday to teatime Monday and usually attracts about 65 OUT guys. You do not need to be invited by me or anybody else; everyone is welcome, so just invite yourself using the drop-down menu below. There will be two camping fields, 30ft x 30ft marquee, music, DIY barbeque facilities, campfire, PURPOSE-BUILT toilets and showers (see pics on my profile), the OUTback Minibus to take us to the attractions, and much partying around the camp fire. During the day OUTbackers go off enjoying themselves in Cornwall (for ideas see Quickfind:313365), and there will be official sub-events which you can join. Or just do your own thing with your old and new OUTback friends. Dogs are accepted, as are stuffed parrots...
I am arranging sub-events on Saturday and Sunday which you can join if you wish. Saturday's will be an RIB boat trip exploring marine wildlife, see http://www.marinediscovery.co.uk/ Quickfind:311992 <Sorry SOLD OUT> You can also arrange your own sub-events if you wish, and I will put a Quickfind link on this page. Sunday's maybe a Secret Cornwall tour in the OUTback bus.
OUTback is always a very friendly and welcoming event. There is no need to be shy or nervous, as after an hour and a beer you will feel completely at home. I make a special effort to introduce newcomers to the other campers.
Barbecue facilities will be available all weekend. Sunday night is the Big Party. Fancy dress is optional, as I know many don't like to dress up, but for those that do, the theme is Pirates of the Penzance Caribbean night, with huge pirate hats, swashbuckling nonsense, and dance remixes of Gilbert and Sullivan etc. This will be a hoot! There will be 3 prizes of Boxed 20 x CD sets of the entire OUTback evening playlist as prizes for the best outfits.
You can arrive early if you wish, from the Wednesday onwards, and leave later, as many do. There is a small extra charge for additional nights.
Tents are most popular, but camper vans and caravans are also welcome. If camping is too much for you, there is plenty of inexpensive bed and breakfast or hotel accommodation in nearby Truro, city centre just three miles away. If you prefer a proper roof over your head take B & B and join us all during the day and late into the night.
Truro railway station is just two miles away from the campsite, on the main line to Paddington. The OUTback Bus (if available) or I can pick you up from the station. By road or train it is just five hours from London. You can also fly to Newquay, 40 minutes away.
Cornwall is a paradise in summer. If you've never been, come and find out why we love the beaches, the cliff scenery, the inland countryside, the nightlife, the swimming, surfing, sailing, walking, restaurants, historic houses, verdant semi-tropical gardens, the Eden Project, sea fishing, nature trails, industrial archaeology... the list is endless.
Popular attractions include the famous Eden Project, Lost Gardens of Heligan, St Michael's Mount, Land's End, Trerice, Llanhydrock House, Geevor Tin Mine, the Tate St Ives, Flambards theme park, and many others too numerous to mention.
When everyone returns from whatever they've been doing during the day, we light the camp fire, the barbecue, switch on the famous bendy lights, and chat around the fire into the small hours. Yours truly is DJ for the evening, with sounds old and new from 7pm until late.
There is a fee for this event which is £40 per person. This covers camping on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday night, barbecue facilities, hire of marquee, sound and light system, OUTback minibus, toilet and showers (purpose built), and organiser's expenses. OUTback is a non profit-making event; the ticket fees go towards paying for all the facilities. We usually just about break even.
