OUT at the Cobham Bus Museum Spring Gathering, Dunsfold, Surrey
10 April 2011: OUT at the Cobham Bus Museum Spring Gathering
The London Bus Preservation Trust's Annual Spring Gathering at Dunsfold Aerodrome
The theme this year for the popular Spring Gathering event is RF 60', celebrating the 60th anniversary of the introduction into London Transport service of the iconic RF class of single decker.
2011 is an important year of change for Cobham London Bus Museum, as it sees the opening of the new display and restoration hall at Brooklands and, also, the move to a new venue for the Spring Gathering major event.
Dunsfold is a working airfield and is home to the Surrey Air Ambulance Service as well as BBC's popular Top Gear' programme. The aerodrome's size and layout provide a much improved scope for a larger display area and this year it is expected that the event will be bigger than ever.
As the theme suggests, RFs will be very much in evidence, with a dedicated display area, a cavalcade of the class during the day and a special limited edition event model, all supported by the usual line-up of many preserved buses and coaches of all ages that have become a well- known feature of the day.
Bus services will operate to the event from the railway stations at Guildford and Horsham, every 30 minutes during the day and more frequently at the start and end. The first journeys are due to depart at 09.30am from both Guildford and Horsham Stations. Full timetables will be published on the website nearer the time.
Buses will, also, operate services at the event around the site, as well as longer journeys into the surrounding area. However, there will be no buses running to Cobham Bus Museum, as the present site in Redhill Road is closed pending the move to Brooklands.
A large collectors market, plus refreshments and a food court, will ensure that every visitor has something that will add to their enjoyment of the day.
The admission price will be £10 per adult, with two accompanied children under 16 free; the price includes car parking at Dunsfold Aerodrome, an event programme and multiple rides on all the bus services, except the horse buses, throughout the day.
