This is a weekend of transport interest in the North West. Blackpool based, by popular request, encompassing Blackpool Trams, the Fleetwood-Knott End ferry, Manchester Transport Museum, the East Lancs Railway and the Manchester trams.
Several of us will be arriving on Friday evening, and we will be meeting for some food at the Bispham Kitchen in Bispham (about 2m from centre) where they do large cheap meals and huge sweet gooey things. Some may be meeting in town for an early evening drink.
Saturday will be devoted to the Blackpool trams, and provides opportunity to leisurely travel the length of the route to Fleetwood, and experience the different trams in service. For those that want to, the Fleetwood-Knott End ferry runs on the hour every hour.
Saturday evening there will be a group meal. A table has been booked at Mamma's Italian restaurant for 19:00. After that a number of us plan to go to Funny Girls but the scene offers many clubs and bars and you can drink and dance the night away, if that's your thing.
On Sunday we'll have an early start, by train to Bolton, bus to Bury (or car transport may well be available Blackpool to Bury), to travel on the East Lancs Railway - www.east-lancs-rly.co.uk. It will be possible to make at least one round trip (over 2 hours) and possibly more, especially if you want to experience a diesel loco. The plan is to catch the 10:40 departure to Rawtenstall.
From Bury we'll head by tram to the Museum of Transport - www.gmts.co.uk They have almost 90 vehicles in their collection of which about 70 are on display. Approximate time of arrival is 14:30
The weekend is flexible, and you can mix and match, and spend more or less time time at the different places.
Some may be returning to Blackpool for a third night, others will be staying in Manchester.
Hope to see you there.
