Ivybridge Community Choir regular Tuesday rehearsal, Ivybridge, Devon
9 February 2010: Ivybridge Community Choir regular Tuesday rehearsal
Ivybridge Community Choir is open to all members of the local community regardless of singing experience or other circumstances. It's run by composer and OUT member David Haines and the choir welcomes everyone, but especially needs more blokes!
Ivybridge Community Choir is an incredibly friendly group with a real family feel. We usually get around 15 people at a rehearsal, but have around 20 regular attenders in all. We love to perform in unusual venues - these have included on a boat, on a forest trail and at a bird of prey lookout point. The Musical Director David Haines (www.DavidHaines.co.uk) has a growing national and international reputation for his music inspired by science, but we also sing a wide variety of other material. Possible opportunities for performances elsewhere this year include Birmingham, Bristol, Exeter, Washington DC, Instanbul, Cambridge (Massachusetts). Everyone is welcome, but the women currently outnumber the men, so new male members (to coin a phrase) will be especially warmly received.
David also runs the rather larger Teignmouth Community Choir and the two choirs often get together for performances with well over 50 people singing.
Standard charges for the choir are currently £3 per rehearsal (your first visit is free) though this is currently under review and likely to go up a bit soon.

Creative, thoughtful 55-year-old man from South Devon UK. I'm a professional composer/songwriter with a passion for science and also enjoy reading, cinema, theatre, country walks, cycling, sea-swimming and having a chat with my friends down the pub.
