23 August 2008: IOW Steam Railway Summer Steam Show and Real Ale Festival
A day trip to the Isle Of Wight Steam Railway for their Summer Steam Show and Real Ale Festival. A day for transport and beer fans alike.
An outing for the August Bank Holiday weekend, but as a day trip only, due to the severe lack of accomodation available on the Island August Bank Holiday Weekend.
A "tube" journey with a difference, followed by a trip on the Isle Of Wight Steam Railway to their Summer Steam Show and Real Ale Festival. A day for transport and beer fans alike.
***TIMINGS WILL BE UPDATED WHEN WATERLOO TO PORTSMOUTH FULL SERVICE IS REINSTATED********
A trip down Ryde Pier on the Island Line 1938 built ex London Underground Bakerloo Line trains at 1049 or 1108 to Smallbrook Junction arrive at 1057 or 1116, to connect with The Isle of Wight Steam Railway.
At 1108 or 1138 we will take a non-stop trip to Wotton arrive 1125 or 1155, and after having a quick look round at the station, depart on the 1131 or 1201 back to Haven Street arrive 1136 or 1206.
The remainder of the afternoon will be spent at the Steam Show, railway workshop and museum and sampling some delightful drinks at the Real Ale Festival in Haven Street.
Lunch is available from one of the many catering outlets on the Steam Show site or Granny Winters Pantry at Haven Street Station, which will be operating in take away style.
A further return trip on the railway during the afternoon is also possible.
The railway is running an intensive 2 train half hourly service today, so the last train back to Smallbrook Junction is at 1720 instead of 1501.
This connects with an additional 1733 back to Ryde arriving at 1741, in time for the 1815 (or 1745 if we are lucky) ferry, or your accomodation.
For those that want a retuirn trip on the Island line to Shanklin is possible, to catch a later ferry at 20.15.
As this is the August bank Holiday weekend, accomodation on the Island is extrememly limited.
Admission to the Show, Beer Festival and unlimited travel on the IOW steam railway is £13. However an Islandliner ticket can be purchase from the guard at Ryde for £12 which gives unlimited travel all day on both railways.
REAL ALE FESTIVAL
The Isle of Wight Steam Railway presents August Bank Holiday Beer Festival. Taking place in a special marquee at Havenstreet Station, the festival will be open on all four days of the holiday weekend from 11am to 7.30pm.
