17 May 2007: IDAHO Southwark Event
The International Day Against Homophobia (IDAHO) is a day that can be used to raise awareness of homophobic issues that are negatively impacting on people's lives and to also showcase success stories where a positive change has been achieved.
Here in Southwark we are looking to hold two events - one where we leaflet commuters at the Elephant and Castle speaking out loud and proud as the police and supporting agencies stating that homophobic crime will not be tolerated on our borough. This would be on 16th May.
The second event, on 17th May, will be a short memorial ceremony to remember victims of homophobic (and trans-phobic) crime here in Southwark and to acknowledge that LGBT hate crime is still happening. All are welcome to this event, especially victims and friends of LGBT Hate Crime.
Guests are welcome to bring a flower or small bouquet of (bio degradable) flowers to float away on the tide in remembrance of those involved in the fight against homophobic and trans-phobic crime.
Meet up at 6pm outside Shakespeare's Globe theatre.

Established in 2002, The Southwark LGBT Network is a social and support group of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people and their friends who live and work in Southwark. The Network is run by volunteers from the LGBT community and aims to create a series of safe spaces for all LGBT people in the borough. It tries to ensure that its activities are not set in pubs or other alcohol related venues.
