10 June 2008: How am I called to live my spirituality as a gay or bi man?
In this evening we will share our personal experiences of how our lives as gay or bi men inform, and are informed by, our lives as spiritual men (or not). We will examine how to live more strongly in the area between the two.
Andrew Woodgate identifies as a gay man on a spiritual journey. This journey is more about asking questions than having ready answers. Andrew believes in the value of contemplation, facilitating discussion and speaking from the heart in deepening our awareness of our spiritual selves.
Andrew's motivation is to help people discover their sense of being deeply connected with what is important to them, with others, with wider society and with the environment. This deep connection is about wholeness. It is about supporting individuals to bring as much of their whole self to the fore as possible. It is about helping organisations and communities live out their mission and values holistically, so that they become both more healthy and more effective.
In his own life, Andrew is concerned to make connections through his passions for the environment and Nature, for empathetic listening, for working with both our rational and non-rational sides, for building community and for his personal and spiritual growth.
Andrew is an experienced coach and groupwork facilitator. He is also a member of the Edward Carpenter Community and has co-organised ECC weeks, Gay Spirit UK and OUT Spirituality evenings, all exploring aspects of gay spirituality. He lives with his partner Philip in Oxford, where he has a consultancy and coaching practice.
Andrew's professional qualifications include: a Certificate in Training and Development (1993) from Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Voluntary Sector Management from the City University Business School (February 1999) and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Spiritual Development and Facilitation from Surrey University (2004). Andrew is currently training for an MSc in Gestalt psychotherapy with a view to deepening his work with (gay) men.

The Out Spirituality Group is a friendly meeting of like-minded gay people who have an interest in spirituality. We look at a variety of topics and issues, with the aim of enabling people to broaden their knowledge and experience of spiritual matters (whatever that means for each of us).
There are opportunities to discuss our journey thus far, where we are at, and where our journey may be taking us.
Whilst the prime focus is on spirituality, by participating in the evening we have an opportunity to build friendships and to network and to form connections that will have a positive effect on our lives and potentially in ways that we cannot yet envisage. It is more than meetings!!
We have a pseudo-event dedicated to the friendship and networking side of things - see quickfind:318866
After the meeting we go to a local gay pub, where space is reserved for us. This is a further chance to continue discussion and to get to know people. Food is available at a modest cost.
Our fortnightly meetings on Tuesday evenings are advertised on the Events' section of OUT, and also on our website: http://www.gayspiritualityonline.org
Nothing is ever set in stone, so please do let us know your views on the group in general, meetings that you have attended, and the sort of topics that you would like us to cover. The best way of doing that is to complete the feedback form on our website. Or send a message via OUT to the event organiser.
