Guided tour of St Albans, St Albans, Hertfordshire
11 February 2012: Guided tour of St Albans
A guided tour of 6 miles on mainly hard-standing, with some grass and a riverside.
*** SNOW UPDATE: the event is going ahead as planned ***
What's happening?
This event is a guided tour of St Albans, a circular walk of about 6 miles, with a few stops to explain the civic development of St Albans from about 55BC to 1890AD(ish).
As usual, the end of the walk ends in a pub, the King Harry. This pub is showing Italy v England rugby match from 4pm, so the pub is expected to be busy. The pub is 8 minutes walk, or 2 minutes drive, from the start point.
The start point is near to Waitrose. Please note that Waitrose does not have a coffee shop, so if you arrive too early, your nearest source of coffee will be the King Harry.
On the final test of this walk, a prompt start at 1100 ended with a sharp finish of 1545, followed by a trip to the pub.
What should I bring?
Wear sturdy trainers or boots. Warm clothing essential (you will be standing around minutes at a time), waterproofs recommended.
Also bring lots of patience.
