19 September 2009: GerryWalk, Guildford circular
A gentle 9 mile walk from Guildford, with varied scenery and a few great views. We'll be taking a picnic lunch.
This walk starts on the River Wey Navigation, briefly follows the North Downs Way, and then veers off up to climb the wooded Chantries Hill for fine escarpment views at the top. The hill also has lovely beech woods. We then rejoin the North Downs Way to climb to St Martha's Church, and descend on the Downs Link to Chilworth. After that, there is a short climb up to the woodland village of Blackheath, from where we follow the mixed woods and open fields of the Downs Link and the tranquil riverside of the Wey Navigation, back into Guildford.
We should be back in London by 5pm and possibly earlier.
Everyone is welcome on this walk. The last one consisted of 42 people and a beagle puppy. We are all very friendly so please invite yourself if you wish. To make sure of invitations to future walks, go to quickfind:224052 and mark yourself as Probable or Definite. Anyone who doesn't do that won't get invited to future walks, as that is my "invitation list".
