An 10.6 mile circular walk starting and finishing in Welwyn Garden City, with a picnic lunch somewhere lovely. At least, that's the plan.
An 10.6 mile circular walk starting and finishing in Welwyn Garden City, with a picnic lunch somewhere lovely. At least, that's the plan.
We did this walk in spring 2010. This time it will be in autumn, so let's hope for some lovely colours.
Once out of the Garden City and over the A1(M) we are in some attractive Hertfordshire countryside, including the landscaped parkland of Brocket Hall and Lamer House.
Don't forget to bring a picnic lunch. Though if it should get really wet, we may have to think again.
In the afternoon we reach the picturesque village of Ayot St Lawrence, which has two unusual churches – one reminiscent of a Greek temple, the other an ivied Gothic ruin. Here too is the former home of George Bernard Shaw, Shaw's Corner, now owned by the National Trust.
We should be back in London by 6pm.
