Gay Shame 2008 - Duckie Gets Macho, Elephant and Castle, London
5 July 2008: Gay Shame 2008 - Duckie Gets Macho
Ashamed of your sexuality? Feel the need to reclaim your masculinity? Why not come along to Dukie's Annual Festival of Gay Shame and Lesbian Weakness to (un)celebrate Gay P**de.
Yes, boys and girls, its time once again for Duckie's Annual Festival of Homsexual Misery. For those who haven't been before, Gay Shame is a fantastic ironic pop at the established gay scene and at gay stereotypes in general. Brought to you by Ame Lame who runs Duckie at the Vauxhall Tavern, this year's theme is "Duckie gets Macho" and you can:
"Take part in over 30 stalls that test your masculinity:
fighting, fucking, football
boxing, boozing, betting" .
On entry to the venue, you'll be give a bunch of nine bob notes (for those of you who do not get the reference, you are too young! Message me and I'll explain.) to spend in the stalls.
Anyway here are some exerts from the advertising:
"Effeminate homosexuals will be barred and women vaguely tolerated as designer Robin Whitmore turns The Coronet into an interactive nightclub-theatre with the aesthetics of a giant fucking mini-cab office: sticky, brown, stained, a bit pongy and distinctly lacking a feminine touch."
Dress code: straight blokes, plumbers, fat darts players, dads, butch lesbians. (Patrons please note: No pink, no make up, no heels, no floral patterns, no humanity)

Tickets are £15 and can be purchased in advance from Retro Bar or on the door (probably for more). In the past its proved an unforgettable night of fun and amusement. Really this is the sort of comedy event that the British do best at; poking fun at themselves.
I hope you can all make it and bring your mates. If you are not sure exactly where to go, by all means call me on my mobile ([number available to members only] 16) or text me. However, if its in the club I may not hear you. I aim to get there for around 9pmish. Happy to meet somewhere first (in fact I might set up a seperate event).
I'll be the one looking thoroughly ashamed (but very macho) in the corner.
Gay Shame 12 - "Its a nightclub, its a marketplace, its a rip off..."
