1 January 2008: FOKAB Buses in Winchester
Feel like something different on New Year's Day? Try visiting Winchester and see and ride on vintage buses from years gone by, in celebration of former local operator King Alfred Motor Services.
The King Alfred Buses Running Day is again successfully re-creating the transport scene in Winchester and central Hampshire from an earlier age, and providing bus services for both visitors and Winchester residents.
Free services operate from 0850 over many of the former KAMS bus routes and those of Hants & Dorset, Wilts & Dorset, Aldershot & District plus some of the coach routes of Associated Motorways. Mystery coach tours into the Hampshire countryside will run using FoKAB's Bedford VAL.
KAMS services and those of other local independant operators depart from the Broadway under the shadow of King Alfred's statue.
In just four years, the static display of buses and coaches, old and new, has become an integral part of running day. There will be a frequent shuttle bus service from the Bus Station to the static display with many interesting and unusual buses operating, sometimes every five minutes!.
