Exeter Cycling Weekend (3 Days), Exeter, Devon
10 June 2011: Exeter Cycling Weekend (3 Days)
3 days of cycling (Saturday to Monday) based around the Cathedral City of Exeter to include Dartmoor, the Exe estuary and South Devon Coastline. This event is organised in conjunction with the cycle group CycleOut London.
This event is aimed at experienced leisure cyclists able to cope with rides of 50 to 60 miles a day including some hills on route!
The full itinerary will be provided nearer the time and depending on numbers we may split into more than one group to accommodate those looking for leisurely vs more challenging rides. Provisionally the details would works as follows:
- Friday 10th June - Travel to Exeter. Optional evening pub meal around 7pm
- Saturday 11th June - Ride West Of Exeter via the fringes of Dartmoor National Park to Castle Drogo (NT) for lunch and extended stop. Return to Exeter via Crediton where people wanting a shorter ride may have the option of taking the train back.
- Sunday 12th June - Ride South and East Of Exeter including part of the East Devon Coast on the return. Ride would go cross country from Exeter via Ottery St Marys to Beer (lunch) and then return to Exeter via National Cycle Route 2 for much of the way following the coast through Branscombe, Sidmouth, Budleigh Salterton (swim option!), Exmouth and the historic old Port of Topsham.
-Monday 13th June - Ride North and East of Exeter into a very quiet area of rolling hills, country lanes, river valleys and small villages. Possibly go as far as Tiverton where there is the option to take the train back from Tiverton Parkway for those wanting a shorter ride.
