At the end of 2005 a Dutch-Mauritian research team discovered beautifully preserved dodo remains in situ in the Mare aux Songes marshland on Mauritius for the first time. Find out what's happened since this discovery.
At the end of 2005 a Dutch-Mauritian research team discovered beautifully preserved dodo remains in situ in the Mare aux Songes marshland on Mauritius for the first time. Although the discovery yielded several dodo bones; DNA has been difficult to obtain. Further fossils collected in 2006/07 also failed to provide preserved DNA.
In June 2007, the first complete dodo - Fred - was discovered in a mountain cave. Will this specimen finally produce DNA?
Doors open at 6.30pm and the lecture starts promptly at 7.00pm.
Refreshments will be served.
