Bristol Cinema: Atonement, Bristol, Somerset
26 September 2007: Bristol Cinema: Atonement
Ian McEwan's acclaimed novel arrives with stately grandeur on the big screen, keeping that same sense of dreamy otherworldliness and unsettling nervous energy. James McAvoy exudes the essence of humanity in a truly soulful, and spectacular, picture.
'(screenwriter) Hampton and director Joe Wright have certainly done McEwan proud with this lavish and spectacular screen version: they are really thinking big, in every sense, and the result is exhilarating. The gobsmacking sequence at Dunkirk in 1940 justifies the price of admission on its own'
'a wonderfully crafted, beautifully lush and immensely moving film that shows, above all, how storytelling can both destroy and heal.'
'Superb performances, beautiful direction, a script and storyline to die for. It is unlikely any film will top this for a very long time'
'This film is near on perfect and every major award it receives will be richly deserved. It needs to be seen on the big screen and once experienced it will never be forgotten.'
'You'll be lucky to see another film this year as absorbing and evocative as Atonement. Don't miss it.'

This showing starts at 7.10pm
I shall be in the cinema lobby from about 30 minutes before the scheduled start time, so that'll be about 6.40pm. Remember that Wednesday's can be busy (all those Orange people!) so please allow time for queuing.
As this is a relatively early screening I will be starting somewhere local (most likely the Black Castle) for a bite to eat before the film - let me know if you'd like to join me and we can arrange.
Oh, don't forget, if you would like me to automatically invite you to future cinema events I organise, please add yourself to the 'Invite List', quickfind:199152, I thank you.
