25 April 2011: Brighton Easter Monday Bank Holiday Real Ale Pub Crawl
We are Lesbian and Gay Real Ale Drinkers (LAGRAD), part of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) and we're visiting a few good pubs in Brighton on Easter Monday afternoon.
Meeting at 1.30 p.m in the Evening Star, 55-56, Surrey Street - from the station bear right then walk straight ahead towards the sea; the pub's a couple of minutes on your left in a two storey terrace. It's where the Dark Star Brewery started so has their range of beers, but also has a few guests and real cider. The would usually have rolls, but he's not sure if the patisserie will be open. They'll have them if it is.
At about 3.00 p.m. moving on back towards the station and turn left up the hill to the Battle of Trafalgar at 34 Guildford Road another good real ale venue with four ales on the bar. They have a food menu, but their kitchen shuts at 2.30 p.m. so you'll have to form an advance party if you want to eat there.
At 4.00 p.m. up to the Good Companions in Seven Dials at 132, Dyke Road which has 8 real ales.
At 5.00 p.m. down to the Prestonville Arms at 64 Hamilton Road, a former Gales pub, now part of Fullers in a back street location.
At 6.00 p.m. just round the corner to the Shakespeare's Head at 1 Chatham Place, a Badger Beers pub, usually has the famed Tanglefoot, as well as Badger Bitter and the Seasonal and equally famed sausage menu.
The railway runs in a cutting just outside the pub into the station, so just follow the road up the hill and the station in about seven minutes walk away on the left.
