9 November 2011: Belgravia Real Ale Pub Crawl
We are Lesbian and Gay Real Ale Drinkers (LAGRAD), part of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), and we're visiting a few good real ale pubs in the Belgravia area not far from London Victoria railway station.
Firstly advance notice:
• I've booked the Charles Dickens for our usual LAGRAD London Christmas Dinner at 7.30 p.m. on Monday 12th December.
• We've also arranged with the Battle of Trafalgar by Brighton Station to have a lunchtime Christmas Meal at 12.30 p.m. on Sunday 18th December, if Brighton is good for you to get to.
The Battle of Trafalgar will require pre-ordering and a deposit of £5 a week before, but the Charles Dickens will allow us to be 'flexible' as usual. I'll post events for these in due course, but book your diary now if your interested.
Moving on to this event. This is a three pub real ale crawl of Belgravia (I've not included the Star Tavern, 6 Belgrave Mews West, another Fuller's pub that's been in every edition of CAMRA's annual publication the ‘Good Beer Guide', 'cause I thought four pubs including two Fullers pubs might be too much for one evening. But it's a fabby pub, and worth popping in for a half between the Antelope and the Nag's Head, if you don't know it!). So:
7.00 p.m. Meet in the Antelope, 22, Eaton Terrace, a Fuller's pub originally created for the servants from the big houses, although there was apparently a pub here before the area was developed. Moving on to arrive at about:
8.15 p.m. at the Nag's Head, 53, Kinnerton Street, a small split level pub that we've been to before, and the consensus then was that was a really good pub. Serves Adnams. Finally moving on to end at:
9.30 p.m. to the Horse and Groom, 7, Groom Place, a pleasant wood panelled Shepherd Neame pub, with Beatles connections and on the way back towards Victoria.
