A Visit to Dunham Massey Hall at Altrincham., Altrincham, Gtr Manchester

4 September 2010: A Visit to Dunham Massey Hall at Altrincham.

Many people enjoy a visit to Dunham Massey as it has the Hall,a beautiful garden and a large deer park in which to walk - all within 15 miles of Central Manchester. There is a good restaurant serving hot & cold food & a large car park.

This is a first venture for an Out trip to a National Trust house in the North West - Dunham Massey is the biggest bequest the Trust has ever been given.

The house is fascinating and for gardeners the garden has been extensively replanted by the NT and is one of the best they have. There is a huge deer-park that offers good walks in quiet country despite the closeness of Manchester, the airport and the motorways.

The restaurant is large and serves hot lunches as well as offering sandwiches and coffee etc at prices competitive to Starbucks etc.

I would suggest that the event begins with an hour in the restaurant from 13.00 so that people can have just coffee or a lunch as they wish as well as giving time for the group to gather together. At 14.00 the choice would be to tour the house and/or the garden or to go off on a stroll through the park. Finally for those who wished to,the group could reconvene for coffee again from 15.30 for further conversation and then our goodbyes.

Be aware that if you are not an NT member - entry to the house and garden is £9.50,entry to the garden alone is £6.60 and the car park fee is £5.

This is a real Mothers' Union outing - next time we might book a coach!
