Writer/Director Tony Ayres' autobiographical The Home Song Stories is the haunting and affecting tale of his glamorously elegant mother Rose, artfully played by Joan Chen (Lust, Caution).
Working in Shanghai as a nightclub singer, Rose meets a sailor and agrees to move to seventies Australia with her two young children.
The marriage fails after seven days and emotionally traumatised and unstable Rose moves from man to man in a bid to find happiness.
This is an epic and award-winning account of unrequited love, betrayal, displacement and identity.
The Home Song Stories was a multi-award winner at last year's Australian Film Institute Awards, including Best Direction, Best Original Screenplay, Best Lead Actress, and many more!
Australia 2007 Dir. Tony Ayres 103 min.
+ Meditations on a Name (cert tbc)
Wattle hates her name she's suffered through it her whole life. A long hot day on the road sees Wattle and her hippy father Rajen have it out, once and for all.
