Peter Carstairs' broodingly meditative September is set in 1968 in the wheatbelt of outback Australia.
Ed is white, Paddy is black, both are 15 year old boys growing up in a rapidly changing society.
Ed and Paddy's friendship, formed during a time of racial segregation, is torn apart when legislation giving equal rights to Aboriginals is introduced, upsetting the status quo and fueling racial tension.
Striking landscapes, oppressive narrative silences and an exquisite score underpin this inaugural feature from the Tropfest team.

Crocodile Dreaming
Filmed in the rugged stone country of Arnhem Land, Crocodile Dreaming is a contemporary dreamtime legend about two estranged brothers played by David Gulpilil and Tom E Lewis.
In a struggle to come to terms with their traditional roles and identities the brothers are reunited through the spirit of their mother.
Award-winning director Darlene Johnson, herself a member of the Dunghutti tribe, inspired by the life of Gulpilil, has woven a fascinating tale full of suspense and cultural complexity.
