I have always considered myself a decent enough person that has always made time for other people and have certainly been a volunteer of one kind or another for the last 25 years. So I wonder why life always feels as though its like banging ones head against a brick wall?
I feel blessed in having some amazing friends who are true and loyal without being up their own arses and they help keep life real for me. I live with various health issues as do a lot of people but I am finding myself looking at the UK and wondering why it is so hard to get employment here now. Its more than just 600 people going for the same job. Something seems to have changed within the mind set of employers.
In the last six years I have written enough job applications, letters and emails to reach Newcastle I would have thought if laid end to end. We now have a system that if a company needs to tick its PC boxes it will employ some one who perhaps cannot cope well with English just so it can be seen to be ticking the boxes. Whatever happened to employing the best person for the job?
Whatever happened to the days of simply getting employed because you were a honest loyal worker who knew how to put the hours in? I don't think its ever been has hard to get a job than it is now.
Job agents seem to be getting worse and do very little for job seekers.
What I want to know is, is it me or does anyone else feel the same?
Recently, I went for a job and was invited back for a second interview and it was as a trainee. I'd never thought I'd have to go back into work as a trainee but that's what its coming to. When the rejection letter came it stated that I didn't have enough experience as a trainee! Hello surely that is their job to provide the experience.
At the same time I am trying to remain positive but I find it harder and harder.
I'd just love it once if an employer was honest and said that I was too old or my illness prevents me from working for them. It would be stunningly honest and refreshing. |
