A topic from Work & Money: Employment

I've been in London nearly 4 years now. I'm happy here. Before that I lived in Munich for 3 years. And I was happy there too. The difference between the 2 was that I enjoyed my work in Munich a lot more.

I'm not unhappy in my current job, but there are certain things that I miss, the most important one being speaking and working in a foreign language. At the back of my mind, I always held out a hope that I'd go back to Munich or Berlin and live and work there, and kept getting vacancy lists sent to me just in case something cropped up.

Now, something has cropped up. And it sounds like my dream job and they are very keen for me to apply. Based in Munich, working all over Europe and paying more than where I am just now. A year ago, even 6 months ago I'd have jumped at this, but I'm just not keen to go for it now, which surprises and scares me a bit.

I spent my 20s pushing myself in every area of my life, but particularly work. That all came to an end in a pretty horrible fashion, and it's taken me until this year to develop that kind of confidence in my abilities again.

Part of me feels I waste my skills in the job I'm in and I should go for it, but another part of me feels that it's taken me so long to feel at home in London I don't want to give that up. Work's only an element of life and I've got no illusions about how much time and effort it can be to build up a social circle.

Has anyone else been in this position before? Have you turned something down because it meant too much change? It'd be good to hear how you deal with it, because I've spent most of the morning just going over the 2 different viewpoints in my head and getting nowhere.
