Why is it that there are so many Kamakazi cyclists in London?

Yesterday I had to drive to the local council offices and nearly knocked over 3 cyclists as they are weaving in and out of traffic and cycling far too fast.

Then today I went out in the car again I had cyclists coming at me from every direction, not wearing any high-vis clothing, riding through red lights at cross-junctions and basically breaking a lot of the rules of the road.

It seems cyclists are becoming more of a road hazard than ever before (at least in London) however when something does go wrong they instantly point the finger at the car/van/truck driver. How is it our fault if you cycle down the inside of a truck, against the curb, and it doesn't see you and knocks you off your bike? And how is it our fault if you cross a junction when your lights are on red and you're hit by a car coming along the road?

I think it's time we had a change in the law so that dangerous cyclists took more responsibility and were taken off the road.

I've always said that cyclists should have to do some sort of road test and be insured just like every other road user.

Its ridiculous that they are forced to ride on the road, and yet the majority of them have never had any test to see if they understand the rules of the road correctly.

I had a scary one this morning with a cyclist, i was turning left at a major junction in manchester, the cyclist was in my right hand mirror as i started turning, he then swung inside to the left without me seeing him and over the bonnet he went, he was screaming and shouting calling me all the fuckers under the sun, lucky though a police van witnessed it and gave him a roasting, held me up for 20 minutes though,
BAN THEM OFF THE ROADS

I am sure there are times when the cacar/van driver is in the wrong. But if cycles were registered and insured like all other road users it would make the way these situation were looked at much more fair.

Had one the other week, I was pulling off a roundabout and into my local Waitrose when this cyclist came belting along the pavement and straight across infront of me. He got really shitty when I nailed the horn. I then pointed out that on the pavement/cycle path there were giveway lines at the car park entrance so I had the right of way and HE should have been paying more attention.

Lots of swearing followed (from him) and I just said "Look mate, if I hadn't been so quick I the brakes I wouldn't be the one laying in a pool of blood would I?"
