Like most people, I publicly decry the whole compensation culture that has grown in this country. Indeed, I spend a lot of my working day having people tell me they deserve compensation for this, that and the other.

I was involved in a car accident last year. A Lexus went up my rear, and not in the good way, in West London. I wasn't hurt badly (thought there was some minor whiplash) and I have a company car, so all off the work putting it right was carried out at no cost to me. Some of my friends sais I should go for compensation and at first I was not going to but then a mate told me that I would get around two grand, and the pound signs flickered into my head.

I went on-line and filled in the forms and started the process off. I was interviewed and then the solicitors did a lot of work (I have never seen so many letters produced). I met a Dr who basically told me the answer to the questions he was asking and after more letters and emails from the solicitor, I was told that the other side was settling and a cheque would be sent to me.

While I was waiting for it to arrive, it didn't seem real and I was making plans of what to do with this unexpected windfall. Now the cheque has arrived and I've just banked it. The problem is, I feel wrong for doing so. I abandoned my principles to make some money that, whilst it is very useful, if I am honest, I don't really think I deserve.

I'm sure that once the cheque clears and I have the cash to spend I will get over it but right now I actually feel dirty and wrong. Not looking for or expecting support. Just wanted to get it of my chest.
