photoStudent again, professional singer and Madame Arcati all in one, juggling fascinating outer and inner lives, would love to meet friends to join me (or us) on country walks, Saturday brunches at home and unconventional holidays. Humour, tease-ability and depth a must, fear of change a distinct disadvantage. Affirming messages and shameless flattery always welcome.

Etymology means nothing to anyone any more.

Die-hard is another way of saying hard as a die. If you're a die-hard republican, your refusal to support royalty is, well, hard.

A die is a hard thing because it's used to stamp or form other materials into shape, including coins (in a mint) and medals. It has to be hard because the metal is cold.

Only a dim person easily pleased would find it clever or amusing that the noun 'die' is identical to a verb to do with death. But I don't think most of Bruce Willis' fans even get that far.

Why don't they stop messing up my language, and find themselves one of their own to spoil instead?
