He'll kill me for mentioning him but I care not.

Were it not for this man, I would still be looking regretfully back at my past and largely avoiding the 'gay world' believing it to still be all shallowness and insubstantial.

Before this year, I used OUT mainly to chat on the forums and only met people who were potential dates as I felt I didn't need gay mates. Needless to say, these sort of relationships rarely worked out.

Sometime in the Spring this year, after many a request, I finally agreed to meet quickfind:1750s for a few pints at a nearby gay pub; I thought it would be a token gesture on my part more than anything. From there, we quickly discovered another gay local and started going to its weekly drag bingo night. You wouldn't have seen me at such a place previously.

I tell you, I hadn't laughed so much in so long. As weeks went by, we became regulars and I started meeting more gay people who have since become very good friends. I realised the gay world as I had seen it was simply one negative facet that I had experienced when I was younger and let that affect my perception of the whole thing.

It all came together for me at the OUT Xmas Party where I was surrounded by good friends and got to put personalities to user IDs that I finally felt totally at home in a gay environment.

I've come to realise that it was actually I who was shallow. I've always been a socialite and had many friends but tarred so many gay people with the same brush.

So, thank you OUT for providing the opportunity and thank you quickfind:1750s for inciting me.

I raise my wine glass to ye ... oh it's empty. *hic*
