So it's christmas eve, I'm working this morning but as there's nowt today I though I'd thing about tomorrow and how each year can be different.
Last year I was single and wasn't looking forward to the day. I got up about 10ish I didn't have any presents to un wrap so I just go on and cooked a small chicken for my lunch as it was the second year I was alone for xmas lunch But I wasn't going to be alone all day as my family were coming round.
I met my brother and a mate in the local farmhouse pub for one drink. Then had my lunch and at 6pm my family then started turning up at my place early so I was in a panic trying to wash up and get food ready! My eldest brother took over the evening and fill my lounge up with his laptop and sound system to play the most boring music quiz every. he just carried on for 5 hours playing even though some family members protested, the rest were being polite.
When they all left at midnight i was so please they'd gone but I felt so depresed by whole day that in the new year I threw all my decorations away including some I'd had since I was a kid. I decided this year that I wasn't doing xmas and would spend it in Gran Canaria instead!
Then in January I just happend to meet my ex online and from that night everything changed.
This year I am at a party tonight with gay and str8 friends and tomorrow I am spending the day with my partner his friend and his bf. I'm really looking forward to it. I've managed to avoid having to get together with the family as they are all fed up with last year but means I can just pop over with presents and a cup of tea and not endure hours of boredom!
So if this year you are alone or dont feel that Christmas is going to be much fun for you, just think that anything is possible and that next year it could be completely different!
Maybe this story might give you some hope not to give up on things at this time of year. I've only spend about half a dozen christmas with a partner in 40 odds year which isnt many. I was about to give up on any hope of having a happy christmas as a couple. Last year I really thought this was the start of many christmas sad and alone..... |
