Well I was just sitting sorting my DVDs when the skys darkened, and then the heavens opened.

There is a pedestrian crossing outside my flat, and within about 10 minutes it was completely unusable by people - totally flooded. Think it caught a few drivers out - as most just powered thru at a hell of a speed.

Caught a few photos tho:

The nicest thing I saw tho was a bus stopping to let some pedestrains on to take them thru the flood - I thought that was a very gallant thing to do!

Oh - and 20 mins later the flood has gone again!

Cool pictures! Perhaps you could get a pet duck?

According to my lovely electronic rain gauge we had 23 mm of rain here in about half an hour from two huge showers about 10 minutes apart. Amazing!

Same in Manc - rain is so heavy the drains can't cope, but it's all gone in a hour or less.

It's torrential at the minute.

That is a lot of rain!

It'll stop in 5 tho - that seems to have been the way of things.

I went on a bus in Edinburgh one, there was a girl on the top deck opening a bottle of lager with her teeth (it wasn't a screw top)

Yeah, showers tend to be short lived today - if it is windy they will go by quite quickly - the slower moving ones in areas where there is little or no wind are the ones that last about 20 mins or more.

Thats common place tho.... :P I was on a bus last week with some random person playing his really crap music (which was very camp I have to admit), and speaking to someone on the phone with words along the lines of "every cunt on the bus is looking at me like I'm some sort of poof or something". Twas surreal I can assure you (and it wasn't even a night bus!)

Although I'm more surprised you went on a bus!

Cool pics, Duncan.

quoting > "we had 23 mm of rain here in about half an hour"

Back in March 2001, when I was living on the beautiful Mid North Coast of Australia, there was a period when our neighbour's rainguage was full and overflowing for 4 successive mornings. His guage had a capacity of 200mm, so there'd been a lot more than 32" of rain in 4 days.

What I'm trying to say is that while in this country we say things like: "Wow! we've had 2" of rain in a day!" ... and think that that is amazing, in reality we need to prepare for much, much more. Because, whilst we're not in the subtropics, much heavier rainfall is more than just possible. That's right, we aint seen nothin' yet. Er...hang on, I feel a song coming on...
