Turkish ground forces have rolled across the border into northern Iraq to target Kurdish rebels said to be sheltering there.
Thousands of soldiers are thought to be involved in the operation which, the army says, began on Thursday evening after an air and artillery bombardment.

Perhaps not the best time to be pissing off the KRG / KAZ, bearing in mind it's the most stable part of Iraq at the moment. Do we think this is going to help the situation?

Turkey has been uncompromising, or brutal, in its suppression of the Kurds for many years, depending on your point of view.

It is a shame that no-one seems to think there is an alternative to a military solution.

I find it's strange that Turkey believes it to be necessary.

The KRG have been quite strict with any Iranian groups such as Komala or KDPI that it's found to be operating out of it's terrritory - as it's worked quite hard to ensure it doesn't piss off it's neighbours, since the KRG despite being the most stable part of Iraq, is still a relatively new and precarious semi-nation.

For Turkey to bulldoze in, doesn't seem the most productive approach. Even though the PKK aren't a nice bunch by anyone's imagination. But again - as we've learnt, brutalising terrorists rarely works - sometimes you need to acknowledge that they have a legitimate grievance, even if you abhor their methods of pushing the issue (suicide bombings, use of mines, assassinations and bombings). In this case, Turkey has not treated the Kurds well (beatings, killings, use of mines, repression of culture, banning of languages)....
