photoWell I am back - sort of! I will be getting online at both locations soon but until then you only have to put up with this hairy cyclist at weekends! 40 year old Telecomms Engineer - who likes good conversation, food, drinks and scaring motorists on the push bike!!

OK I know that this is a bit late so bear with me.

Now that we have suffered the one hundredth British military casualty in the ongoing Afghan conflict I have carried out a check of the average age of these men that have died. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/5121552.stm)

So far only 97 have been identified so the figure is odd but the average age so far is 27.54 years whilst the upper and lower ages are 51 and 18 respectively.

I know that all men and women joining our military know the potential risks but it is still a sobering thought that some of these young men were little more than kids and the older ones certainly likely to be parents or uncles themselves – what a tragic waste.

Even though I consider the military intervention in Afghanistan to be justifiable compared to Iraq, it is still an abhorrent waste of life!

Well we better get used to the fact that more troops will die.

Our troops won't be going anywhere for many years if those in control have any serious desire to force democratic change in Afghanistan and so the body count will continue to rise.

They better start getting headstones ready....
