A host of celebrities will be supporting this year's Appeal Week – including Britain's Got Talent finalists Escala and broadcaster Michael Buerk – by encouraging people all over the country to get involved with the annual fundraising week between 3 and 9 May.

The electric string quartet Escala has visited Red Cross projects across the UK and taken part in a first aid training course. They are also using their media appearances to ask members of the public to collect for the Red Cross during Appeal Week, while Michael Buerk is also appealing for the public to get involved.

Appeal Week 2008 was the most successful in many years, with volunteers and staff raising the Red Cross' profile – along with £906,000 to help the organisation continue its work supporting vulnerable people.

How to get involved

Fundraisers across the country are aiming even higher this year, but they need your help.

Staff and volunteers across the UK are gearing up to collect money in their local area or organising fundraising events – and you could join them. By signing up online to collect for just two hours you can help make this year's Appeal Week the best ever.

There are loads of ways to fundraise, and you can get in touch with your local Red Cross Appeal Week champion or your local fundraiser to find out all the other ways you can get involved.
