Please, some one, anyone, give me a valied reason for the BBC, and other companies, to think it sensible to be re-making classic costume dramas. The last batch, made in the 1990s, - Vanity Fayre, Sense and Sensability, Pride and Prejudice, Oliver Twist (though there'l never be a better version than the musical starring Ron Moody as Fagin) etc, were perfect, flawless and massive profit makers. Yet, we-re barely 10 years on and already they're being re-invented. Why? Surely that money could be better spent on family enterainment. Bring back quality classics like: The Children's Sunday drama (BBC1) or show repeats that no one minds seeing again - Are you being Served? Rather than constant repeats of Only Fools and s*dding Horses or Open All Hours. Surely, there's not one person left in the British Isles who's not seen David Jason faffing about as either Granvil (is that actually a name?) or Del-boy?

The Generation Game - Yes.
The Clothes Show (on terestrial TV) - Yes.
Grange Hill - Yes.
Byker Grove - Yes.
One foot in the Grave repeats - Yes.
The Golden Girls repeats - Yes.

Match of the Day 2 - NO!
Big Brother - NO!
Eastenders - NO!
Buying and selling property shows - NO NO NO!
Newsnight EVERY night - NO!
The Culture Show being dumbed down - NO!!!

Come on TV companies, put money into quality programming once again, bring back Saturday night family entertainment. Come back comedy writers like Carla Lane and Victoria Wood, come back celebrity cabaret shows like The Cilla show, bring back BBC1's FLAGSHIP lunch time show - Pebble Mill AND come back Russ Abbott, Bella Emberg, Susie Blake and give us the ALL singing, ALL dancing, ALL entertaining Christmas Extravaganzas from before it was cheaper to make make-over shows and reality TV crap.

Steps down from soap box, steps back and lets others have their say:
