Please, some one, anyone, give me a valied reason for the BBC, and other companies, to think it sensible to be re-making classic costume dramas. The last batch, made in the 1990s, - Vanity Fayre, Sense and Sensability, Pride and Prejudice, Oliver Twist (though there'l never be a better version than the musical starring Ron Moody as Fagin) etc, were perfect, flawless and massive profit makers. Yet, we-re barely 10 years on and already they're being re-invented. Why? Surely that money could be better spent on family enterainment. Bring back quality classics like: The Children's Sunday drama (BBC1) or show repeats that no one minds seeing again - Are you being Served? Rather than constant repeats of Only Fools and s*dding Horses or Open All Hours. Surely, there's not one person left in the British Isles who's not seen David Jason faffing about as either Granvil (is that actually a name?) or Del-boy? |
