I wasn't sure what to think of this when I first read about it, and especially after seeing the pictures of the new Knight Rider car. But here I am all snuggled up in my duvet recovering from a cold, and I thought I'd see what all the fuss was about. Firstly let me say..thank heavens they haven't totally washed their hands off the previous Hasselhoff series (except that cheap attempt to return to the franchise back in 2000!)

Raking in over 10 million viewers when it aired in the US last month..it's safe to say that the return of KITT didn't really blow any wind up the media's skirt.

The LA Times said: "The two-hour (!) movie/pilot/extended Ford commercial crept by Sunday night like a glacier with turbo-revving sound effects."

...while my favourite entertainment news source, Variety, added to the voice of disappointment by saying:

"...unfortunately, even at 200 miles an hour the times appear to have passed the concept by, and making 'Knight Rider' road-worthy for further adventures will require more than just a tune-up."

Whether it was sour grapes due to the lack of advance press-screenings, or the failure of once again trying to bring back this franchise, it's clear that viewers were very curious to see what this new version had to offer. However the future of this Knight Rider ressurection now depends on whether or not there is demand. But then any pilot episode these days has to suffer the same form of judgement..and Knight Rider might get a reprieve!

Having enjoyed the original series starring the HOFF..it's difficult to say what this was lacking, and without comparing the new with the old. Let's face it the original series didn't exactly have ground-breaking storylines..but as with most TV shows..the purpose is escapism..and it didn't claim to be otherwise. I certainly enjoyed this new two-hour pilot movie, and even liked the car (despite the poor leaked pics)! Val Kilmer's voice somehow just seemed to fit in the role of KITT and the characters seemed likable. What sold it to me towards the end was the cameo by David Hasselhoff..and yes he is connected to the future of series.

So has anyone else seen it yet?
