Has anyone done the Trans-Sibera Train? I've always wanted to do it.

Any hints and suggestions?

Yep, did it last year, but we did the Trans Mongolian Train from Moscow to Beijing via Ulan Bator in Mongolia in October. Took 5 days in all, 4 days from Moscow to Ulan Bator and then 1.5 days from UB to Beijing. Overall cost for the lot was about £650, but that didn't include flights or a hotel in Beijing.

Its fantastic! Well worth doing. Think its best to get a couple of friends together to do it, there were 5 of us in all and we had a cracking time.

I would say definitely go through an agency to get it all set up for you. I'll dig out who we used for you, but they handle everything. Hotel in Moscow, visas for all countries, train tickets delivered to your hotel, hotels wherever you want to break your journey, transfers to and from the train stations. Make sure you give them a month to sort visas out to be on the safe side.

As to travelling, well it depends what you want. We went Super Deluxe class all the way and that was basic enough. You'd be two to a cabin and on the Russian train the toilet and wash basin are at either end of the carriage. On the Chinese train you shared a shower with your neighbouring cabin. If you go any other cllass there's 4 to a berth and you don't get to choose who sleeps in with you. There's a dinning car and the food good and reasonably cheap.

Give us a shout if you have any questions.
